Syria's civil war explained from the beginning

In March, the Syrian conflict will enter its 8th year. Meanwhile, more than 465,000 Syrians have been killed in the fighting, over a million injured, and over 12 million - half the country's prewar population - have been  displaced  from their homes. Here is the story of the conflict in Syria, explained from the beginning: What caused the uprising? While  lack of freedoms  and economic woes fuelled resentment of the Syrian government, the harsh crackdown on protesters inflamed public anger. Arab Spring:  In 2011, successful uprisings - that became known as the Arab Spring - toppled  Tunisia 's and  Egypt 's presidents. This gave hope to Syrian pro-democracy activists. That March, peaceful protests erupted in Syria as well, after 15 boys were detained and tortured for writing graffiti in support of the Arab Spring. Shocked beyond words to hear about the untimely demise of the original superstar and legendary actress Sridevi in Dubai after a massive heart attack. She will never die from the hearts of the millions of her fans. May her soul rest in eternal peace. Condolences to the family.  Legendary superstar Sridevi is no more. The actress, who was just 54, passed away in Dubai. In her final few moments, the actor was celebrating a wedding in the family. Sridevi was of the few woman actors in the industry who could carry an entire film on her shoulders. The actor was attending a nephew and actor Mohit Marwah's wedding with husband Boney Kapoor and younger daughter Khushi. The illustrious actor - a Padma Shri awardee - had a successful career spanning over four decades. Known for playing versatile roles Sridevi gave the industry some of the biggest hits such as - Mr India, Chandni, Nagin series, Sadma, Lamhe and so on.
