Storm in Assam wreaks havoc - Damages more than 200 houses, leaves one person dead

With warnings of strong winds from the weather department, the Friday night storm wreaked havoc in Guwahati besides other parts of the state.

Communication was disrupted in the Kachari Basti-Bhangagarh road in the capital city after several trees were uprooted in front of the GMCH.

One person was injured after a tree fell nearby the Rajdhani nursery in Ganeshguri. The storm also caused extensive damage to the FISHFED office at Rupnagar.

The storm also caused devastation at Kokila in Bongaigaon damaging houses at Nambarpara, Golapara, Bhandara besides other places causing power outage. Massive damage to human property was also reported from Baihata Chariali, Kampur in Nagaon.

One person identified as Krishna Das was killed after lightning struck him at Alimur village in Majuli.

Two persons were injured at Silpata of Mushalpur in Baksa district. The storm damaged more than two hundred houses at Bhogapara, Sowansri, Digholdonga, Narayanpur, Belguri, Borimukh and Lambidara.
