Bengal Govt felicitates mountaineers with Radhanath Sikdar - Tenzing Norgay Adventure Award


The State Youth Services Department, organised an award distribution ceremony to confer the Radhanath Sikdar-Tenzing Norgay Award and Chhanda Gayen Bravery Award to successful mountaineers on Wednesday at Moulali Yuba Kendra, Kolkata.

Eleven climbers from Bengal were awarded these prestigious awards on that day for their outstanding achievement in the field of adventure this year.

The Bengal Government introduced Radhanath Sikdar-Tenzing Norgay Award in 2013 to motivate young mountaineers. It is considered as the highest state level award in the field of adventure. Chhanda Gayen Bravery Award has also been introduced by the State Government for outstanding achievement for female in the field of adventure.

At this programme, 50 organizations promoting mountaineering as an adventure sport were provided with financial aid. The State Minister for Youth Services said that the Government is always promote adventure sports and declared that it has already distributed Rs 2 crore to as aid for mountaineering expeditions.
