GJVM Lift Relay Hunger Strike, Following Request From Darjeeling MP

The Gorkha Janmukti Vidyarthi Morcha lifted its relay hunger strike that entered its 40th day today.

"The decision was taken keeping the situation of the border areas in mind. Darjeeling MP S S Ahluwalia had made a request to postpone the strike," said the front vice-president, Bhaskar Rai.

In his letter, Darjeeling MP SS Ahluwalia had written...

"Dear Friends,

You may be aware of the rising tension between our country and Pakistan. The latest instances of cross-border incidents has increased tensions between the two nations, andd our country and its armed forces

This is the hour for the Nation to stand united. It is also a time for the World to realize that whatever our internal concerns may be, when it comes to the Nations safety and security, we stand as a united family.

Whenever our nation has been challenged, the Gorkhas have always been seen at the forefront, ready to respond to the enemy. In these dire times, l request the entire Gorkha communit to please hold off the ongoing protests and stand by their country and by the Hon'ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi to fight the war against terrorism.

I understand the expectations and aspirations of the Gorkhas and the spirit and will of students in the Hills, and express my solidarity and appreciation for their determination and selfless sacrifices. But at this moment, our country needs us. We must remind our nation and Prime Minister Naredra Modiji that when needed, the Gorkha community shall be there at the forefront as always, in the service of the nation.

In that spirit, I would like to request the Vidyarthi Morcha to call off its relay hunger strike, which has been on for the last 40 days.
