West Bengal To Be Renamed As ‘Bangla’ In Bengali

West Bengal will become Bengal in English, “Bangla” in Bengali and “Bangal” in Hindi, after the state’s assembly backed the Mamata Banerjee government’s proposal.
“We have taken the decision. Bangla and Bengal. We had told the centre to please accept the decision of the assembly. We would like it passed in parliament next session,” Ms Banerjee said after a resolution was passed in the assembly.
Stating that the Left had opposed the name-change, she added: “The Left also tried to get the name changed, they failed. They are now opposing the name change…Those who have opposed the move, history will not forgive them.”

A big reason for the name change, proposed last month, was that the Chief Minister was fed up of having to speak last, or often not at all, at meetings involving states.
Terming this as historic, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee greeted the people of the State. “I am sure people will be happy with the name ‘Bangla’ or Bengal. There was a need for ‘branding’ for Bengal. Our intention is to make Bengal the best in the world,” she said.
When asked if the new name will cause confusion with Bangladesh, CM replied: “There is a Punjab in Pakistan also. There is no confusion over Bangla and Bangladesh.”
She slammed the Opposition for playing politics over the name of the State. She said, “They have committed another historic blunder. Congress has become a frontal organisation of the CPI(M).”
Paying homage to the icons and stalwarts related to Bengal, she said in future the government will also come up with a logo for the State.

Middle age man commits suicide by jumping infront of a train near Siliguri

A man said to be in his forties jumped in front of a local train heading to Katihar from Siliguri junction today morning around 11am near Naxalbari station at Panitanki outpost. The body of the man was cut into two halves. Sources say the deceased looks like a Nepali and could be a resident of Nepal as the incident took place near India-Nepal border. The train was immediately stopped after the incident. The body was later recovered by the railway staff and sent for post mortem. Train services resumed after a delay of 30 minutes said sources.

Largest casino chain Deltin enters Sikkim

The country's largest casino chain Deltin Group said it opened its first facility at Gangtok, capital of Sikkim, under the brand name of Casino Deltin Denzong.  The casino, at the Denzong Regency hotel situated 6,000-feet above sea level and offering a breathtaking view of the world's third highest peak Mt Kanchenjuga, comes with 169 gaming positions spread across two levels.  Deltin already runs Asia's largest floating casino, Deltin Royale and also the country's first casino flotel, Deltin Caravela in Goa.  Delta Corp got the licence last July from Denzong Regency Hotel to run the run casino at its premises on lease, Ashish Kapadia, managing director of Delta Corp said.
