35 pouches of Heroin seized by Sikkim police at Melli from a youth, he was coming from Siliguri

In,  its continuing war against drugs, Sikkim Police has made a major breakthrough yesterday  evening when at the Naka set up by Melli PS  a person named Manish Tamang, age 22 yrs, and resident of Jorthang, Majigoan was intercepted at Melli check post with 35 pouches of Heroin,weighing 25 gms (approx) while he was coming from Siliguri in a Taxi Sumo.

Accordingly, a case under  Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 was registered  against the accused.All the legal formalities are being  followed and  All the possible leads into the nexus is being investigated thoroughly.

The case is under investigation.

Although the recovery is not significant in terms of quantity but it indicates the infiltration of serious hard drugs in the state which is mainly battling the abuse of medical drugs like cough syrups, Spasmoproxyvon, and Nitrazepam10 . It is an early warning to society that if we fail to combat drug abuse effectively, the future might see major problems of drug abuse in the state which will make things worse for the younger generations.

It is interesting to note that the accused was previously arrested and tried inconnection with Melli PS case no 58/2015 but he was acquitted after the trial. It is evident that he is back into peddling of drugs.

Sikkim Police urges the general public to come forward and report instances of drug peddling in your respective localities so that the police can act on the same ensuring that this menace is be rooted out from our society.
