Proud Moment for Sikkim - Gangtok awarded as the Cleanest State Capital in Northeast India


The Swachh Survekshan Awards 2017 was declared at the National Media Center, Raisina Road, New Delhi on 4th May 2017 at a function presided over by Shri. Venkaiah Naidu, Hon’ble Union Minister for Urban Development. Gangtok city was awarded for the Cleanest State Capital of North East Zone.

Sikkim was represented at the event by Hon’ble Mayor Shri. SS Chaudhary, PCE cum Secretary UD&HD, Shri. G.T. Bhutia, Municipal Commissioner GMC, Shri. T. Gyachho, State Mission Director- Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) and SI GMC Shri KW Chankapa.

This is the 2nd year of the Swachh Survekshan Awards being instituted by the Ministry of Urban Development. Under the Survekshan 2017, a total of 500 cities having population of one-lakh and above participated in the challenge across the country.

The Quality Council of India which was assigned the task of carrying out the assessment of all the cities conducted repeated flied visits. During the field visits they collected data from interactions with Municipal Bodies, through direct observations at ground and through feedback from citizens. (TNT)
