Child Trafficking Case - DCPO Sasmita Ghosh Remanded To CID Custody For Seven Days Today


Jalpaiguri: A local court on Tuesday remanded the District Child Protection Officer to CID custody for seven days in connection with the alleged trafficking of children by an NGO here.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Himanil Bhattacharya granted the CID prayer for custody of Sasmita Ghosh for seven days when she was produced before him.

Ghosh was charged with child trafficking, cheating and conspiracy among other offences under different sections of IPC.

Ghosh was arrested yesterday for allegedly helping an NGO ‘Bimala Shishu Griho’ which was facing charges of selling babies in the country and abroad. Besides Ghosh, the chairperson of the NGO and five others are already in CID custody
