Tusker Damages School Wall in Dooars

Residents of Bamandanga Tondu tea garden near a wall of a primary school classroom that was damaged by a lone wild tusker on Wednesday morning. The elephant which was seen at Nagrakata block in Jalpaiguri came out of an adjoining forest, walked into the garden's primary and junior high schools and damaged at least two rooms and furniture.

"The tusker was in search of rice kept in the primary school for mid-day meals," Bhagwan Das, a garden resident, said.

Punam Oraon, a non-teaching staff member of the primary school, said the institution had arranged for Saraswati Puja on the campus but because of the elephant attack most students stayed away.
