Darjeeling brings good news for Cyclists in India - 20 km mountain biking park opened

Whether it is fitness, sports or wellness, Cycling today has emerged as one of the premiere recreational activities. For any adventurer, the idea of cherishing nature through the woods in the alternative green spaces is enough to fill her/him with inducement and amuse.  And this comes at a time when Darjeeling is all set to begin the Country’s first-ever cycle trail for enthusiasts who live for experiences of life that are free from the adulteration of urban chaos.

In a necessary bid to enjoy Eco-friendly adventure sport, Darjeeling became the first hill station in India to cherish the title to  get a mountain biking park along a 20-km stretch through the Senchal Wildlife Sanctuary. Bikers can now ride through the forest cover, remaining undisturbed by vehicles in the region.

The trail will originate at the sanctuary’s main gate near Jorbangla     and finish at the state tourism guesthouse situated in the hillside village of Chatakpur. Riders can enjoy tea breaks at Chatakpur which also provisions for lodging.

A cycle rally, organised by Darjeeling district administration and Off Road Adventure on Sunday, marked the beginning of many adventures to come on Sunday where bikers rode out from Darjeeling to Chatakpur.

The cycling trail opens throughout the day from dawn to dusk and remains off limits only during the monsoon. Riders can rent mountain bikes from Darjeeling at a price of Rs. 800 per day and permits can be bought at Rs. 50 for a 30-minute ride from Darjeeling.
