Siliguri College Professor Vidyawati Agarwal to be given IGNSS Award

Siliguri College professor as well as Programme Officer of NSS (National Service Scheme) Vidyawati Agarwal will be awarded with IGNSS (Indira Gandhi National Service Scheme Award) by the President of India Pranab Mukherjee at Rastrapati Bhawan in Delhi on 18-19 November this year.

This is a very proud moment for not only Siliguri but entire North Bengal as after 2007 we are getting this award.



Professor Agarwal is getting this award on being the head programme office of NSS Unit-4. Professor Agarwal also informed that Indira Gandhi National Service Scheme Award is given out every year on the Birth Anniversary of Indira Gandhi. Professor also said that there are 45000 programme officers in India and after a well survey of their work in the last 3 years, the awards are announced.

Indeed this is a very proid moment for Siliguri. Congratulations Professor Aagrwal, you have made Siliguri proud.


About NSS: National Service Scheme, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports Govt. of India, popularly known as NSS was launched in Gandhiji's Birth Centenary Year 1969, in 37 Universities involving 40,000 students with primary focus on the development of personality of students through community service. Today, NSS has more than 3.2 million student volunteers on its roll spread over 298 Universities and 42 (+2) Senior Secondary Councils and Directorate of Vocational Education all over the country. From its inception, more than 3.75 crores students from Universities, Colleges and Institutions of higher learning have benefited from the NSS activities, as student volunteers.


Indira Gandhi National Service Scheme (IGNSS) Awards
The Indira Gandhi NSS Awards are conferred every year to give recognition to the outstanding work done under NSS. The Awards are given in the following categories:

(i) Best University & Upcoming University/ +2 Council (2 Awards)
(ii) Best NSS Units & their Programme Officers (10 Awards) and
(iii) Best NSS Volunteers (30 Awards). The Awards for the year 2014-15 were conferred by the Hon’ble President of India on 19th November, 2015.


Objective of Indira Gandhi NSS (IG NSS) Awards:

The objective of IG NSS Awards is to recognise and reward outstanding contributions towards voluntary community service made by the Universities/ Senior Secondary (+2) Councils, NSS Units/ Programme Officers and NSS Volunteers, with a view to further promote NSS.

Indira Gandhi NSS Award at four levels will be given every year and the details are as follows :
