Princess of England Beatrice Keeps Her Date With Kalimpong

Princess Beatrice rwho arrived in Kalimpong on Tuesday to attend a three-day "Free cataract and intra-ocular lens and implant programme" received a warm welcome.

The programme is being organised by Jamgon Kongtrul Eye Centre, Kalimpong, in technical collaboration with Tilganga Eye Centre of Nepal. The centre is headed by Nepalese eye surgeon and Ramon Magsaysay award winner, Dr Sanduk Ruit.

Speaking to the press, Princess Beatrice said: "I have been visiting his (Dr Ruit's) hospital in Kathmandu and now to travel with him is a huge opportunity and to be able to travel to Kalimpong as well is a huge honour."

Dr Ruit has conducted over one lakh eye surgeries across the world.

The 28-year-old Beatrice, who is seventh in line to succeed Queen Elizabeth II of England, said: "I think I am very lucky. I am excited to be in this part of the world for the next couple of days to see true inspirational work happening on the ground."She will leave Kalimpong on Thursday.
