Kalimpong to Become a New District - CM

On the second day of her three-day trip to the Hills, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated a number of developmental projects on Thursday.
CM Mamata Banerjee addressed a public meeting at Kalimpong today. She said, “I extend my greetings to the members of the development boards of various communities. I come to Kalimpong every year to attend the Foundation Day programme of Lepcha Board. My congratulations to the Lepcha Board for the great work in the last four years. “
Mamata Said, “3000 homes have already been built by the Lepcha Board. 1000 more houses have to be built for the poor. The various development boards must promote cultural activities and make Darjeeling clean and green. We want Darjeelings Hills to prosper and become the best.”
Mamata added, “The more you work for development, the more funds we will allocate. We will bring more tribes under SC/ST list and set up more development boards. Municipal elections in the Hills are around the corner. Those who win must work for development. I want to work for the development of Darjeeling Hills.”
Mamata said, “We have sanctioned ITI, polytechnic colleges, medical college, education hub for Darjeeling Hills. We want tourism industry in the Hills to flourish. We have set up a separate tea directorate for north Bengal. Kalimpong will become a new district. We have allotted Rs 6 crore for building infrastructure.”
Mamata Banerjee said, “Tourism infrastructure at Tiger Hill will be developed. There are many missionary schools in the Hills. We are proud of them. I am proud of the young generation of the Hills. If Hills do not progress, Bengal cannot progress. I am like your sister. We have to live in harmony in the Hills. I will keep coming here.”
Mamata asked, “So what if you did not vote for us in the elections? We will keep working for development of Hills. There is no substitute for good work. Keep working and we will extend all cooperation. Aachulay.
Among the projects inaugurated by the Chief Minister today are the eight new cottages of the Kalimpong Tourist Lodge at Morgan House; a treasury building at Kalimpong; a marketing hub at Suruk-Samther in Kalimpong Block –I; the HDU unit at Kalimpong sub-divisional hospital; office of DSP (Traffic) and police barrack at Vimbore (Bidhannagar); police station and force barrack at Sukhiapokhri; a hall at the Darjeeling minority centre; roads in Phansidewa; beautification project around Jalpaiguri Sadar Hospital; and office of the Tea Directorate at Hillcart Road.
The Chief Minister laid the foundation stone of the New Jalpaiguri police station and the community Hall at Lorungdhura in Jorbungalow . The Chief Minister also distribute services like cheques for Geetanjali, scholarships for Kanyashree among others.
