Adivasi Students Join Hunger Strike for Gorkhaland

Five Adivasi students from Simalbari yesterday joined the ongoing relay hunger strike for Gorkhaland, being conducted by Gorkha Janmukti Vidhyarthi Morcha in Kurseong.

The Gorkha, Adivasi and Kamtapuri communities have lived in perfect harmony for centuries in the Terai region of Darjeeling. There is inter-community marriages and all the festivals are celebrated with equal harmony.

The students stated that "not just the Gorkhas, but also Adivasi, Kamtapuris, Bengalis and other minorities living in the hills, Terai and Dooars have continued to be deprived under Bengal. Gorkhaland statehood will help in eradicating the discrimination that all of us have to face, hence we request the political leadership to restart the Gorkhaland agitation in all earnestness," said the students.

GJVM has continued the relay hunger strike since 25th of August, 2016.
